Yabancı means “foreigner” in Turkish. We are a student project group at İstanbul Nişantaşı University, and we kept hearing the same questions from international classmates: how to get a residence permit, where to live, why a phone suddenly stopped working. Existing expat forums hold useful advice, but much of it is years old, buried in long threads or written for retirees on the coast. We chose this concept because students and young newcomers deserve one calm, English-language starting point: short checklists, honest neighbourhood notes and real ways to meet people, each marked with the date we last checked it.
